X’PLORE EASTERN: Discovering the Eastern Region Beyond the Usual

By Into The Unknown Tours

What if there is more to Ghana’s Eastern Region than the places we already know?

What if the real story of the East is not just about waterfalls, mountains and beautiful landscapes, but about the people, food, history, traditions, communities, businesses and everyday experiences that make the region what it is?

That is the idea behind X’PLORE EASTERN.

Following our Journey to the North, Into The Unknown Tours is embarking on an 8-day tourism storytelling expedition across the Eastern Region of Ghana from 9th–16th October 2026.

This is not simply a trip from one attraction to another.

It is an attempt to slow down, explore deeper and tell the story of Eastern Region from a different perspective.

🌍 What is X’PLORE EASTERN?

X’PLORE EASTERN is an Into The Unknown Tours project created to explore, experience and document the Eastern Region beyond conventional tourism.

We want to discover the places tourists know, but also the places they don’t know.

We want to meet the people behind the destinations, taste local food, learn the stories behind communities, visit businesses, experience traditions and uncover experiences that deserve a bigger audience.

Our goal is simple:

Turn destinations into stories.
Turn visitors into participants.

🗺️ Where are we going?

Over the eight days, our journey will take us through different parts of the Eastern Region, including:

Day 1 — Akuapem

We begin in Akuapem, exploring its history, communities and agricultural heritage.

Our experiences will include learning about Akuapem history, visiting Okomfo Anokye and its historical significance, exploring Ghana’s first cocoa farm, pineapple farms, the first training college, experiencing Akuapem Poloo and learning how gari is made from scratch.

Day 2 — Krobo / Somanya

From Akuapem, we continue towards the Krobo area and Somanya.

The day will focus on Krobo culture, traditional bead-making, waterfalls and lesser-known historical sites, including Osubeng Waterfalls and the Sisiamang/Asesewa stone city.

Day 3 — Kwahu Atibie / Akwasidae

We head towards Kwahu to experience the culture, food, people and stories that make the area unique.

This will also be an opportunity to explore the traditions and experiences surrounding Akwasidae.

Day 4 — Kwahu

We continue exploring Kwahu, going beyond the well-known viewpoints and attractions to discover more of the communities, landscapes and experiences that define the area.

Day 5 — Afram Plains

The journey continues into Afram Plains, where we will explore a different side of Eastern Region — its communities, landscapes, people and way of life.

Day 6 — Koforidua

We return towards Koforidua, taking time to explore the city, its people, food, businesses and surrounding experiences.

Day 7 — Akosombo & Atimpoku

The journey moves towards Akosombo and Atimpoku, exploring the destination beyond the usual tourism narrative and discovering experiences around the Volta River and its communities.

Day 8 — Bunso Eco Park

We close the expedition at Bunso Eco Park, joined by Pepsodent creators for a special exploration and content day.

🎥 More Than a Trip

X’PLORE EASTERN is also a content and storytelling project.

A team of creators will be documenting the journey through photographs, short-form videos, social media content and longer-form storytelling.

The intention is to put these destinations in front of audiences in Ghana and beyond and encourage people to see Eastern Region differently.

Because sometimes a destination doesn’t need another advertisement.

It needs a story.

And sometimes people don’t need to be told “visit this place.”

They need to see why they should care about it.

🤝 Working With Local Communities

An important part of X’PLORE EASTERN is connecting with the people who make these destinations special.

From tour guides and artisans to farmers, restaurants, hotels, resorts, attraction managers, local businesses and community members, we want to give the people of Eastern Region a platform to tell their own stories.

We believe tourism should not only be about visitors coming into communities.

It should also be about communities benefiting from the attention tourism creates.

📸 Why We Are Doing This

Ghana has incredible destinations.

But many of them remain known only by name.

People may know about a waterfall without knowing the community behind it.

They may know a mountain without knowing the people who live around it.

They may visit a tourist attraction without understanding its history.

X’PLORE EASTERN is our attempt to bridge that gap.

We want to show the Ghana most tourists never see.

🧭 From Journey to the North to X’PLORE EASTERN

X’PLORE EASTERN follows the same spirit that inspired our Journey to the North project — getting into the vehicle, leaving the familiar behind and discovering Ghana through experience.

But this time, we are turning our attention to the Eastern Region.

We are not travelling simply to tick destinations off a list.

We are travelling to experience, document and tell stories.

✨ The Bigger Vision

For us at Into The Unknown Tours, the future of Ghanaian tourism is not simply about adding more destinations to an itinerary.

It is about creating experiences people remember.

It is about taking people beyond sightseeing.

It is about food.

Culture.

Adventure.

History.

People.

Community.

Stories.

And the unexpected moments that happen when you allow yourself to truly explore.

That is what X’PLORE EASTERN represents.

8 days.
One region.
Countless stories.

And perhaps, by the end of this journey, we will discover that the Eastern Region is not somewhere you simply visit.

It is somewhere you experience.
